By theory and practice I am a family therapist.  I am a Limited License Marriage and Family Therapist through the State of Michigan, which is an additional licensure that I hold above and beyond my licensure as a Professional Counselor.  As such, I believe that the family is a system and systems work best when they work together smoothly, with clear goals, cooperation, and with well-defined roles.

I have extensive experience working with families to achieve agreed-upon goals.  As such, the more people who are part of the family who come to counseling, the better.  My practice can seat 10 people comfortably so I can easily accommodate most families.  All members of a family are important, from the youngest to the oldest and all members in between.

I have found in my counseling experience that successful results from counseling require clients to take an active role in the treatment process by participating in treatment goal setting and keeping the change process alive by completing homework assignments between counseling sessions. All counseling approaches require us to build an honest, trusting, and respectful relationship with each other.

As a Limited License Marriage and Family Therapist, I receive supervision for my work with relational (more than one person) counseling.  My supervisor’s name is Dr. Jen Hutchings, and she can be reached by calling (248) 761-4673 (Grand Rapids, MI).  I am estimating that I will no longer require supervision of my relational hours by the end of 2016.
