As the senior clinician in this practice, Dr. Hinman is a family therapist by theory and practice. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist through the State of Michigan, which is an additional licensure that he holds above and beyond his licensure as a Professional Counselor. As such, he believes that the family is a system and systems work best when they work together smoothly, with clear goals, cooperation, and with well-defined roles.
We, as a practice, have experience working with families to achieve agreed-upon goals. As such, the more people who are part of the family who come to counseling, the better. Able to accommodate most family sizes, our practice can sit up to 10 people together comfortably. All members of a family are important, from the youngest to the oldest and all members in between.
We have found, through our experience, that successful results from counseling require clients to take an active role in the treatment process by participating in treatment goal setting and keeping the change process alive by completing homework assignments between counseling sessions.
All counseling approaches require us to build an honest, trusting, and respectful relationship with each other.
